Parklane Landscapes offers homeowners all the pleasures of a beautiful outdoor space as well as the good feeling of knowing they’re taking care of our world in the process.
As experts in sustainable landscapes and beautiful outdoor living, we offer people thoughtful, responsible, entertaining and enjoyable green living spaces – spaces that address our lifestyle and comfort as well as contribute to the health and beauty of the environment. Despite what you may have heard, it’s possible to do both.
We’re on a mission to lead people back to a sensitive, sensible approach to our outdoor spaces. We’re interested in pushing and growing ourselves, our clients and perhaps an entire industry to enjoy ALL that our landscape has to offer and be even better caretakers of the spaces we live in.
There’s an old Native American saying that urges us to “tread lightly on our moccasins.” It’s a guiding principle for us. Aesthetically… Functionally… We want to leave each place we visit better than we found it. This was our founder’s philosophy, with which we’ve cultivated and grown a solid reputation over 60 years in the landscaping industry.
With Parklane Landscapes, sustainable is beautiful!
Anna often says she grew up in a garden center. Between the ages of 4 and 15 Anna’s back yard was the Parklane retail garden center on Finch Avenue. She boasts that she was able to read blueprints by the time she was 8 years old and her super power is to draw the perfect inch.
Anna attempted to pursue a career in environmental studies attending University of Waterloo 1980-1981 but the lure of residential landscape proved to be too enticing for her. More suited to healing the earth “one garden at a time” Anna refocused her education and graduated from Humber College Landscape Technology program in 1983.
Anna’s creative inspiration, like that of her father, is heavily influenced by Ontario’s northern beauty. Anna’s secret passion is to create the perfect outdoor classroom for classes in ecology, food security and herbal medicine.
Anna has sat on various Landscape Ontario Committees including Congress, magazine, promotion, bylaws and currently environmental stewardship. She has also been an active board member of the Brock Community Health Center. Anna is an herbalist and frequently donates her time to present to horticultural groups and schools.
Kim received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry from Lakehead University. This solidified his love of the outdoors which has been his unofficial office his entire life. Kim worked in the Forestry sector in Ontario and British Columbia, culminating with a 5 year contract with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources southern research station in Maple.
Soon after, Kim joined Parklane as the farm manager and supply supervisor. Here he sharpened his skills to complement the landscape industry under the dedicated direction of Casey and Monica van Maris. Kim operates Sweet Dove Herb Farm with Anna and turned his love of the outdoors into a successful scenic photography business.
Kim is pleased to be back at the helm of Parklane with Anna, and looks forward to the challenges ahead as Parklane moves successfully into the next generation.
Growing up on an herb farm, Cassie was encouraged to learn by touching, tasting and not being afraid of getting her hands dirty. After receiving a diploma from Humber College and spending 3 months traveling through Europe she came home with a new love and appreciation for everything Mother Nature had to offer.
Since then Cassie dove head first into Parklane, starting with learning the ins and outs of maintaining high end residential properties. Quickly she started taking on more responsibility at the yard and proving herself on the construction sites working alongside the guys. She became a large asset to the company and now fills the role of operations manager.
Joanne joined Parklane in 2011 as a Landscape Designer. As she grew up in a family landscape construction and garden centre business in Ireland, she has an appreciation for the family business dynamic . Joanne completed a degree in Property Economics, Masters in Landscape Architecture and a certificate in Ecology in Ireland and has brought this knowledge and experience to Parklane.
Joanne worked in Ireland as a Landscape Designer and completed both residential and commercial landscape plans for local authorities, commercial and private clients. She worked with Monaghan County Council as a wetland monitor, assessing the changes in water quality and vegetation in an Integrated Constructed Wetland.
Working as a designer Joanne approaches all designs with an open mind considering the practical use of the space blending function and form into the designs with the consideration of the clients requirements and budget. She considers the use of plants as an important aesthetic to a garden and encourages the use of native and naturalised planting schemes to ensure a balance with the ecology and environment of the garden.
